ISO 9001:2000
In
keeping with our TRUE identity, CSM embarked on a journey towards
ISO 9000 certification in 1996. We saw certification as supporting
our goal towards producing high quality products and providing our
customers with exceptional service. Approximately one year later
CSM was certified by one of the world's largest and most respected
registrars - British Standards Institution, BSI. Our Quality Management
System satisfied all the stringent requirements of ISO 9002:1994.
From 1997 to 2001 this management system enabled us to be recognised
as one of the leading suppliers of top quality products, both locally
and regionally. Quality is by no means coincidental. It is built
in to every stage of the production process. Raw materials are carefully
selected and screened before entering the process. Controls are
placed at critical stages and the final product is tested to the
highest international standards e.g. ASTM and BS. Proper documentation
is kept throughout, and
all material is tagged so that identification and traceability is
made easier. To instill confidence in CSM's products, certificates
are readily provided upon request by the customer.
In
2001/2002, CSM took up the challenge to satisfy the requirements of
the new standard - ISO 9001:2000. Again we were successful since a
good quality foundation had been laid four years ago. This new standard
has taken us a few steps further. We now look at improvement as an
ongoing process. There is focus on preventive actions so that potential
problems are identified and addressed. This impacts positively on
our operations. There is also involvement of people at all levels
of the organisation.
Another significant change that has come about is our renewed attention
to providing what our customers say they want. We have developed numerous
means whereby our customers can freely communicate with us. This has
enabled us to better understand and respond to their unique needs.
Our journey is not yet ended as the pursuit of excellence has no limit.
ISO has laid the platform for CSM to move in that direction.
